What does a China Nerd want for Christmas?
Well, if they’ve been to China in the last year, they probably already have one or all of the following:
Unopened boxes of “rare” Longjing Tea picked two weeks after Qingming Festival, often referred to as "Gu Yu tea" (谷雨茶), notable for its delicate and fresh flavour;
At least one bottle of “$400 Moutai” which is gathering dust somewhere because it just isn’t the same if you drink it on your own;
Silk scarves or other garments with traditional-ish, modern-ish Chinese patterns which are kind of nice, but no one would ever actually wear;
Half-read books on the Chinese economy, its politics, and maybe even one of those “playbooks” on how to “win” in China today;
And, if they’re really lucky, they’ve also got some kind of impossible Chinese puzzle, like the “luban lock” (鲁班锁) a wooden puzzle, named after Luban 鲁班, the ancient Chinese carpenter, and "father of Chinese architecture."
The China Nerd has enough of these, and loads of other China clutter which they’ll never use.
