Just to put languages in the same theoretical framework as a cultural product — the world consumes a lot of anime and K-pop, therefore younger generations gravitate towards Japanese and Korean languages. I feel like most people learn mandarin for career driven reasons (business, trade, governmental affairs) the crowd is very different, thus learning mandarin can’t be a bit boring. But Let’s make mandarin fun again!
